On Tuesday I went to the Knittn’ Kitten to take some photos for a school project I’m working on. I’m posting some of my photos here to remind my fellow Portlanders that if you’re making any handmade gifts this holiday season, the Kitten can hook you up with whatever you need—at bargain prices.
And remember, you can always call the store to ask if they have certain items in stock. Ethel & Rome are awesome ladies, who are super friendly and helpful.

In this week’s issue of the Mercury, there’s a whole feature dedicated to crafts. It’s an homage to the uprise of the DIY/Craft community here in Portland, as well as an overview of the Handmade Nation events going on here this weekend.
In the print version, you can spy two Flapper Girl items in the artwork used for the story (see above, or peep a larger image here). I am really excited that both my crafty soul sister MOSS and I were included in the showcase of local goods. Thank you, Mercury!

I am so excited that Flapper Girl will be a part of the 13th Annual Cheap Art & Craft Show at Reading Frenzy here in Portland. The show, which features dozens of items all under $100, runs through the month of December. So that means you’ll be able to find my signature hand-embroidered cupcake patches and coffee cozies, as well as my vintage-inspired corduroy clutches at Reading Frenzy all month long. The reception is happening this Thursday, December 4 from 6-9pm. Swing by to say hello and stay for refreshments, merriment, and bushels of local, handmade goodies. I hope to see some of your smiling faces there this Thursday evening!
Reading Frenzy’s 13th Annual Art & Craft Show; December 4 – 31, 921 SW Oak Street, Portland, 503-274-1449.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of doing a podcast show about sewing and crafting for awhile now. I have some background in Podcasting (it’s part of what I do at my day job), and I know first hand that they can be a lot of fun. However, before I jump in head first on this, I want to gather a little bit of information from people who love to sew and make crafts. I want to know what topics they are most interested in, so I could make a show that people will look forward to each week. So, if you could be so kind as to take my quick survey (only nine questions!), I would be forever grateful!
Also, If you have any questions or additional thoughts about podcasts, feel free to leave me a comment in this post.

Check it out! Here is a video segment from Pirate Satellite TV that profiles the craft scene here in Portland. It even includes an interview with me where I talk to the host in depth about my inspiration for Flapper Girl and about being a part of the craft community.
